I have a problem and it involves Miracle Grow
I'm on a budget, a very strict budget. I have to count every penny and I plan my shopping trips around the coupons that I have in hand. This all sounds very responsible and a tad bit boring, right? Well...I forgot to mention that every now and then I'll walk into a store and say "SCREW IT" and spend way too much money on something that I don't really need,,, mainly books or some bizarre video on the history of magpies or something like that. Yesterday I was on a mission to take my bike to the bike shop AND re-pot all of my plants. I dropped off the bike without being tempted by any of the cool shiny things in the store, but when I got to Home Depot my will-power and budget flew out the window. As I made my way back to the potting soil, I passed this table proclaiming "Perennials: 5 for $10." I couldn't pass that up, right? But there's one tiny problem, I don't have 5 extra pots. Ok, well I just HAD to go back to the plant pot section. For all of you who are getting ready to do some plant potting, Home Depot is where you need to go. Forget Lowes. Forget Wal-Mart. Forget that little mom and pop store that's getting ready to go out of business because the big mega chains have lower prices and a better selection. Home Depot has the cutest pots. I mean, they have ones with flowers and polka dots!!! Well, to make a short story way too long, I ended up spending $60 dollars on dirt and pots. Yeah, that could've gone toward my Visa bill.

Martha's got nothing on me
I've been on a major health kick lately, and that pretty much means that I count every calorie that goes into my mouth and I want to know EXACTLY what I'm eating. Yeah, I'm that girl now.
Lately I've been craving something crunchy and I'm too much of a freak to allow myself to eat a potato chip. They're so UNHEALTHY!! Anyway, I was obsessively scanning allrecipes.com (my mecca of recipe goodness) and I came across something called Baked Kale Chips . These first drew my attention because they involved something green (my main requirement for something to be healthy). If it's green, it's healthy, right? right? The second thing that made me want to try these little babies out is that the recipe is incredibly simple and quick. I mean you can't go wrong with only 3 ingredients.
Well, I'm going to stop gushing and just list the recipe.
Ingredients
I'm telling you, you can't go wrong with these babies...well unless you're one of those unhealthy people who doesn't eat anything unless it's deep-fried or endorsed by a cartoon character.

Isn't 64 such a lovely number?
Spring is officially here, I only have 64 days left in Buffalo, and I've lost about 30 pounds. Life is good. I actually don't have anything to complain about today which is a rare occasion so you should consider this my little gift to you...all 2 readers that I have.
Two weeks ago I flew out to Missouri with mommy dearest to apartment hunt and settle her spirit on the fact that I will be living 14 hours away from her...again...in the opposite direction. Overall it was a great trip and I enjoyed my time with Trenia. The fact that she brought me a pair of pajama pants with gnomes on them only made me love her more. **On a side note, Gnorman gives me "the eye" whenever I wear them and it kind of creeps me out** I found a townhouse that I really liked and I also found a coffee shop that fulfilled my need of quirky. What more could I ask for? Ok, a Target closer than 1.5 hours away would be a huge bonus but I'll survive.
Everything seems to be going along smoothly, right? Well...not quite. A week before I left for Missouri I got an email from UT saying that an interview at their medical school had been scheduled for me on April 19. An interview!?!?! It's April and that's REALLY late in the whole medical school application cycle. That's not a very good sign considering they've had my application for months. I was perfectly content with going to KCOM and now UT had to come and muddy things up. Because it is so late in the cycle, I'm pretty sure that I'll either get rejected or waitlisted and the more that I think about that, the more I realize that I'm ok with that happening. I don't know if I even really like UT. After the interview, I realized that Memphis is only marginally better than Buffalo (it is in the South after all), I don't like the first two years of the program, and I don't know if there's anywhere remotely close to the school where I would feel safe to live. On a plus note, the 3rd and 4th year rotations are amazing so that is something to consider. I don't know why I'm even stressing out about this now because I haven't been accepted (and I probably won't be). I just have to keep reminding myself why I fell in love with KCOM and Kirksville in the first place. Of all of the places where I was interviewed and accepted, it was my favorite and it just felt right...more right than Atlanta, more right than Harrogate, more right than Erie, and more right than Memphis. I'm not going to stress but I am going to hold out on signing that Kirksville lease until I have made my FINAL decision. Ahhhh!!!
I think that I'm going to be anti-social this weekend. I'm looking forward to it.

You Look Sexy Rockin' That Mullet and Those Mom Jeans
Ahhhhh...spring. There's nothing like a change in weather to bring out the worst of Buffalo fashion. Most of us up here in the great white North have been hibernating for the past few months and when the sun finally decided to make an appearance, we all went a little crazy. Yes, you might have caught me wearing flip-flops and a t-shirt in 40 degree weather but compared to some of these people, I was the epitome of class and high fashion. Before I go into detail, I just want to state that I am focusing on the wannabe Desperate Housewives group of Buffalo women. Don't get me wrong, a certain set of women up here (Amherst) do know what is and is not appropriate to wear out in public, but most of the ovary-toting population is still stuck in a time when Bon Jovi was cool. **Disclaimer** I could go into just as much detail about the Buffalo men but I don't have the desire or the stomach to do so. Writing about hair gel and gold jewelry makes me want to vomit and start cutting myself so I will just stick to the mulleted women.
Over the past few weeks I've noticed a large amount of women sporting the she-mullet. I'm not talking about the mullet that you will find among the women's softball set *cough, cough* I'm talking about the mullet that takes hours to curl and fix and looks kind of like a helmet. You know what I'm talking about...take a time machine back to 1987 and you'll see them all over the place. On top of the mullet, there are way too many women wearing the light-washed, straight leg blue jeans. I'm not talking the more stylish skinny leg. NO, I mean the ones that are wide up top and then taper. Oh the horror!!! In combination with the jeans of death, these women wear baby doll t-shirts. Baby doll tees are not flattering on ANYONE. They are cut too short and the sleeves tend to pinch arm fat...and believe me, most of the middle-aged women up here do have the arm fat. As a sidenote, the rate of hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, and heart disease among the people of Buffalo is higher than the national average. Hmmmm....Do you think it has something to do with pizza and wings? Yeah, probably. So to re-cap, we have the mullet, the mom jeans, and the baby doll tee. Yes, it makes quite a combo. If I'm really lucky, I'll see the occasional pair of high-top Reebok sneakers but most of them just sport Sketchers.
"But I love my Sketchers."
"That's because you don't have a Prada backpack"
What movie? What movie?
Ok, I've got to stop or I might go postal on the city of Buffalo. I have 82 days and I'm gone. GONE!

Roadtrippin' Through March
As of Thursday night, I have all of the dates and pit-stops finalized for my summer road-trip. I'll come up with a cutsy nickname for it soon so don't you worry about me continuing to call it something as lame as "summer road-trip." My mom is actually going with me so that's a small miracle in itself (most of you probably know my mom). I'm sure they'll be pools set up betting on how long it takes one of us to kill the other. I'm putting my money on day 9.
I'm really looking forward to this trip because I'm getting a chance to see a lot of the beauties that this country has to offer. Did I mention that I'm getting a picture of Uncle Sam tattooed on my ass with "Proud to Be An American" written below it? Yeah, jealously doesn't suit you.
Here's the list of places that we're going to either explore thoroughly or just sleep in for the night:
On a side note, I've started having bad dreams about medical school. Last night, I dreamed that I was in a physiology class where the books were from 1962 and I could never catch up on the reading. It seemed like every time a class ended another one would start and I never had the required reading done. Then when I was looking for my next class, I ended up in this HUGE gym with multiple basketball courts and bleachers 100 feet high. Somehow I entered at the highest point and every time I thought that I was going the right way, there was a sever drop-off with no steps. I almost fell to my death 3 times and when I did find stairs, a friend of mine who actually goes to that school now was sitting at the bottom of them. Once I got to the bottom of the stairs, he was gone and I was right where I started. This dream followed the one I had Friday night about pink gummy ants that lived in my bed and when they matured, they'd morph into fleas with wings. And no, I don't smoke the marijuana.
I can't decide if I'm looking forward to medical school or not. Mostly it's just a means to an end.

- Memphis (Hello Graceland and drunken people on Beale St.)
- Oklahoma City,OK (sleeping for the night)
- Amarillo,TX (dead Cadillacs...oh yeah)
- Albuquerque, NM (we need a place to crash)
- The Grand Canyon (North Rim...less tourists)
- Salt Lake City, UT (I'm obsessed with mormons)
- Yellowstone National Park
- Glacier National Park (this is the one that I'm REALLY excited about)
- Mt. Rushmore (this is for mom)
- Omaha, NE (a place to crash)
- St. Louis (who knows....I know they have a Trader Joes)
- Back to Knoxville

Rory, you were lame during your freshman year
Hi All, -G- here...
I know it's been awhile since I've made an appearance on the blog but I've been recovering. A few weeks ago the posse and I decided that we were going to take up masonry. While I was building a nice fire pit, I dropped a load of bricks on all 8 of my fingers (I bet you didn't know that gnomes only have 8 fingers), and I've been wearing little blue hand casts for the past 8 weeks. It's horrible. I couldn't eat, I couldn't type, I couldn't knit, I couldn't work with my stamp collection. My life has been so very empty. Tara hasn't been any help because she refused to type for me and she even refused to floss my teeth. She doesn't care about my oral hygiene, she's heartless.
Well...thankfully I got my casts off last week so I'm back to doing normal gnome things. My stamp collection is looking just super. Tara has been stingy with the computer so I haven't had the chance to get on here. She's collapsed into a puddle of sweat and tears right now so I was able to grab the Toshiba and make a run for it. For those of you who don't know, Tara has been doing this crazy workout called Insanity. She may be lookin' smokin' hot but she's also spending a lot of her free time sweaty and thinking about how hungry she is. You should see the crap she's eating. I don't think that I've ever seen that much tofu in one place. She's also started eating Wasa crackers so she could "get a little crunch." Have you ever eaten a Wasa cracker? Imagine chewing on a cardboard box and there ya go. I'm also pretty sure that she's bought out all the Kashi supply in Erie county. We've got Kashi cereal, Kashi breakfast bars, Kashi granola bars, Kashi, Kashi, Kashi. I hate Kashi. There's no processed anything in that "food". Seriously, they're "naturally sweetened." WTF, give me sugar and high fructose corn syrup. Not only is she losing inches off her waist, she's losing her mind. I want carbs and I want them NOW!
Ok, although Tara has been limiting my junk food intake, she has done a few, and I repeat FEW, kind things. I bet you don't know this but I'm completely obsessed with The Gilmore Girls. I remember watching little Rory grow from a naive sophomore at Chilton to a Yale graduate starting her journalism career following around Barack Obama's 2008 campaign (yes, Rory is real, don't burst my bubble). While I've been recovering from the great masonry debacle of 2010, Tara was so kind to let me re-watch ALL of the Gilmore Girls. Tara and I have them on DVD. Since this was probably the eleventy-seventh time that I've watched seasons 1-6 (I'm still boycotting season 7 because that was when they got rid of Amy Sherman-Palladino), I decided to take a little time to analyze the characters. I have to say that my least favorite Rory is during season 4 when she was a freshman at Yale. She was just so boring and vanilla and that was when she slept with Dean (shame on you, Rory, he was married); however, this is probably one of my favorite Lorelai seasons. Although, she wasn't with Luke (season 4 was Jason), she was extremely witty and her hair looked amazing. Is it sad that a tiny part of me wants to BE Lorelai Gilmore?? Wait, don't answer that. I could go on for days talking about my favorite episodes and characters. All I have to say is that I really, really, really hope that they make a Gilmore Girls movie.

Who knows when I'll be back on here because you all know how Tara is with her computer but she did tell me that she is planning on taking me on a roadtrip this summer. Let's just hope that she doesn't "forget" me again. You know how she is.
Love and Twizzlers,
Gnorman G.
